Según el Instituto Japonés de Mantenimiento de Planta (JIPM):

• "Los TPM Excellent Awards, juzgan y honran los resultados de las actividades de Mantenimiento Productivo Total (TPM) en las plantas industriales. Unas 2 000 empresas han sido merecedoras de estos premios desde el inicio de los mismos. Los premios TPM desempeñan un papel valioso en las operaciones de evaluación del JIPM para el desarrollo del sector industrial tanto dentro como fuera del Japón."

• JIPM lanzó el premio PM en 1964, para "fortalecer la mejora de la constitución de las empresas y contribuir al desarrollo de la industria, mediante la promoción de la modernización del mantenimiento de planta y el desarrollo de tecnologías de mantenimiento.”

En esta edición del 2020 han sido merecedoras de algún tipo de premio TPM 49 empresas de 13 países. Los premios se distribuyen en seis categorías:

1. Award for World-class TPM Achievement
2. Advanced Special Award for TPM Achievement
3. Special Award for TPM Achievement
4. Award for Excellence in Consistent TPM Commitment
5. Award for TPM Excellence, Category A
6. Award for TPM Excellence, Category B
